→ Historic American Legion Building
The historic American Legion Building is located at E. Houston Street and 2nd Street NE, in downtown Paris, Texas. It is a two story building with a white facade, steps leading up to a columned entryway, a shallow gabled roof.

On January 1, 1915, the two-story white masonry building constructed as an "Annex" to the existing Post Office, was first occupied. Located adjacent to the old red federal building, it was barely finished when the fire of 1916 damaged it badly and totally destroyed the federal building. It was repaired and used until a new Post Office was constructed.
Later the building was traded to the City of Paris for land on which to construct a new Post Office. The City sold it for $1 to be used as Paris Junior College's first independent location. The building later housed the American Legion and the Paris Independent School District Administration offices._A_

It was 1931 before the citizens of Paris, Texas, felt a municipal airport was needed. Several crude private landing strips were available, including one in Reno and the Oyler borthers' strip west of Evergreen Cemetary, but city officials wanted a more modern facility for the growing community.
Very little money was available for the new airport. The Winfield Brown Post No. 30 of the American Legion took the lead. Donations form it, the Chamber of Commerce and several businessmen began the process of acquiring land on Northwest nineteenth Streen and the building of an L-shaped field composed of two dirt runways.
The field was ready for the first plane on November 11, 1931, and a 50-by-60-foot sheet steel hanger was completed on July 19, 1932. Formal dedication of the new Legion Field occurred on July 30-31, 1932._A_
